Introducing Frugal Luxury

Stay in our small luxury inns and save about twenty-five percent on our tours of Peru.

If the art of travel were an opera,

Inka's Empire Tours would be one of its most moving arias...

-- Kimberly Fay, LuxuryLink.com, January 2005

Our Tour Portfolio comprises a selection of archaeological and ecological journeys. Most have longer and shorter versions to which you will find links at the top of each itinerary. Since our tours are private, you may depart on any day you wish, and any tour can be modified to meet your needs. All prices are per person based on two people sharing a guest room. Intra-tour air fares are additional. For a description of each of our destinations, discover the Wonders of the Empire.

Peru

Legacy of the Incas (11 days/10 nights), Sacred Sites of the Incas (12 days/11 nights) and Empire of the Sun (14 days/13 nights) all explore the essential destinations: the imperial city of Cuzco, fabled Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley and mythic Lake Titicaca. Here, you will find the most important monuments and the birthplace of the Incas.

Ancient Civilizations of Peru (16 days/15 nights) adds the Colca Canyon, which preserves the Andean Condor, and Grand Tour of the Inca Empire (22 days/21 nights) further adds the Amazon Rainforest.

Archaeological & Ecological Treasures (18 days/17 nights) highlights the Inca Empire's most renowned wonders -- the Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. If you prefer, choose the Amazon Rainforest instead of Lake Titicaca.

Other tours, such as Ancient & Colonial Capitals (10 days/9 nights), focus on the heart of the Inca Empire: Cuzco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. To that tour, The Lost City & the Temple of Gold adds Royal Class accommodations and the Hiram Bingham, Orient-Express' luxury train. Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (13 days/12 nights) adds the famous trek, while Machu Picchu & Galapagos Islands (15 days/14 nights) and Galapagos Islands & Machu Picchu (18 days/17 nights) add a cruise to one of the Empire's and the world's ecological marvels.

As a complement to archaeology, Inka's offers ecology on its Amazon Bio-Trip (8 days/7 nights) into the biologically-rich rainforest of southeastern Peru, near Cuzco and Machu Picchu.

Galapagos & Ecuador

Enchanted Isles of the Galapagos (11 days/10 nights) begins in colonial Quito before descending from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean for a seven-night cruise in the natural splendor of the Galapagos archipelago. Galapagos & the Kingdom of Quito (16 days/15 nights) adds five days in the Andes to explore the volcanoes, native cultures and historic haciendas of Ecuador. Instead of the Andes, Galapagos & the Amazon (16 days/15 nights) adds five days in the Amazon Rainforest. With Historic Haciendas of the Andes (7 days/6 nights), admire the epic landscapes and relive the elegant style of Spanish colonial aristocracy in the country's most enchanting traditional manor houses.

Chile

In Hotel Explora (13 days/12 nights), the architecturally-acclaimed Explora hotels are the bases from which to explore Chile's most popular regions: the Atacama Desert and Patagonia's Torres del Paine National Park. Atacama, Lakes & Torres del Paine (14 days/13 nights) adds the Lake District to Atacama and Patagonia, while The Grandeur of Chile (19 days/18 nights) further adds Easter Island (5 days/4 nights).

Brazil

See The Brazil Discovery Collection for classic Brazilian journeys that explore the country's great cities, turbulent but rich past, vibrant cultural displays and immense natural beauty.

A naturalist's tour-de-force...

-- Ellen Douglas, LuxuryLink.com, July 2004

Promising private service, luxurious accommodations and excursions that reveal the authentic history and landscapes of ancient Peru, Inka's Empire Tours returns guests to the gracious, golden age of travel. With this in mind, the Amazon Bio-Trip is a naturalist's tour-de-force. This expertly guided journey launches from historic Cuzco, high in the Andes of central Peru, and gives the adventurous traveler an extraordinary opportunity to explore the Manu National Park. This World Heritage Site protects more species of animals and plants than any other reserve on earth. In addition, be treated to premier stays at the Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge, Amazonia Lodge and Manu Wildlife Center.

Your expedition begins with an unforgettable three-day road entry into Manu, during which you will discover the world's most intact tropical cloud forest and witness the elaborate mating dance of the blazing-scarlet Cocks-of-the-Rock. Two nights in the cloud forest and one in the rainforest's Andean foothills are followed by a riverboat trip to the jungle lowlands. The infinite variety of indigenous fauna, such as macaws, Jaguars and monkeys, inspired an episode of PBS' "The Living Edens". After four nights in this marvelous place, board a charter flight back to Cuzco. As you pass over the emerald terrain and serpentine rivers, you can ponder the wonders you've seen and dream about returning.

Savor pristine natural wonders on this magnificent 7-night escape.

-- Kimberly Fay, LuxuryLink.com, June 2003

Inka's Empire Tours, leaders in private luxury expeditions in South America, has orchestrated an excursion from the Andes to the Galapagos Islands. Galapagos & the Kingdom of Quito includes adventures on both land and sea in one of the world's most fascinating corners. With the assistance of expert guides, guests are escorted to destinations throughout mainland Ecuador -- once the Inca's Kingdom of Quito -- as well as the islands of Bartolome, Isabela and Fernandina, just to name a few.

Experience a priceless journey as you hike in the moorlands surrounding the highest active volcano on earth, ride a horse in the mystical Otavalo Valley, recapture the spirit of old Spanish days in a trio of colonial haciendas and sleep in an Inca palace. Explore Quito's curious blend of Gothic, Baroque, Moorish and Neo-Classical architecture before departing from the Andes. At sea, cruise in style for eight days aboard a small yacht, enjoying fine food and accommodations while navigating the enchanting Galapagos Archipelago. Island landings with a certified naturalist provide an opportunity to explore the volcanic topography and observe the region's unique wildlife.

Discover the Galapagos and the Kingdom of Quito on a 14-night land and sea excursion.

The awesome opportunity to explore one of the world's last pristine landscapes...

-- Kimberly Fay, LuxuryLink.com, March 2004

Inka's Empire Tours offers thoughtful travelers authentic and truly exclusive encounters with the ancient cultures and natural beauty of South America. Each of its private luxury expeditions is a unique showcase of local wonders, and its Galapagos & the Amazon tour sheds dramatic light on the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador's Yasuni National Park. This adventure begins and ends in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito. Founded in 1534, its picturesque cobblestone streets are home to an impressive collection of Gothic, Baroque, Moorish and Neo-Classical architecture, all blended with the mestizo sentiment.

Following your stay in Quito, board a small yacht for a seven-night cruise in evolution's laboratory -- the Galapagos Islands. Twice daily land excursions with a certified naturalist will give you a close-up view of the animals that inspired Charles Darwin's theory on the origin of species. This voyage is followed by a flight from Quito to the remote Napo Wildlife Center in the Amazon Rainforest. Your hosts and expert guides are the native Añangu people, whose reserve offers the awesome opportunity to explore one of the world's last pristine landscapes.

Savor unspoiled landscapes on this exquisite 15-night South American escape.

This singular company invites you to make yourself at home in the Historic Haciendas of the Andes. Amid the epic landscapes near Quito in northern Ecuador, relive the elegant style of Spanish colonial aristocracy in the country's most enchanting traditional manor houses, one of which was an Inca palace in the 15th century.

Your private journey begins at the two-hundred-year-old Hacienda La Carriona, where the stone courtyard and garden hint at its past splendor. In the days to follow, enjoy the opportunity to hike in the moorlands surrounding the Cotopaxi and Antisana volcanoes, soak in the Papallacta Hot Springs and ride a horse in the rolling hills of the Otavalo Valley. Untamed landscapes...

-- Kimberly Fay, LuxuryLink.com, March 2004

A forerunner in combining luxury with culturally and ecologically responsible travel, Inka's Empire Tours presents thoughtfully crafted, private excursions that reveal the history and landscapes of South America. Beginning and ending in Santiago, the Hotel Explora tour is a study of natural beauty in extreme environments. It comprises memorable sojourns at two of the exquisite Explora hotels -- one in the Atacama Desert and the other in the Torres del Paine National Park of Chile's Patagonia region.

Atacama may be the driest desert on earth, but it is dappled with rare forms of water. El Tatio Geysers and the lagoons of the ancient Atacama Salt Lake provide glittering counterpoints to the arid landscape of the Valley of the Moon. In the south, Torres del Paine, lush and yet equally dramatic, is home to Grey Glacier and the great waterfall of Salto Grande. In both locales, the luxury of the Explora hotels is a stunning contrast to the untamed landscapes around them. Five-star accommodations in The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago are equally posh.

Discover the majesty of Chile on this remarkable 12-night encounter.

This journey reveals three distinct faces of nature...

-- Ellen Douglas, LuxuryLink.com, July 2004

A gracious, knowledgeable host and a curious, discriminating guest -- it's the perfect combination. Take this mix, add a magical location, and you have an expedition from Inka's Empire Tours. Thoughtfully crafted and fully guided, its sumptuous itineraries include the Atacama, Lakes & Torres del Paine adventure through the ecological wonders of Chile. Beginning and ending in Santiago, this private journey reveals three distinct faces of nature -- the Atacama Desert, the Lake District and Patagonia. At the same time, it indulges guests in creature comforts, such as stays in The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago and the founder's mansion of the historic Santa Rita Vineyard.

Atacama, the driest desert on earth, is a paradox of unusual manifestations of water, from the small but exquisite salt ponds in the Valley of the Moon to the lagoons of the Atacama Salt Lake, the oasis of San Pedro and the geysers of El Tatio. In the Lake District, volcanoes shimmer beneath the water as you cross Lake Todos los Santos. Further south, in Patagonia, drive through the pampas steppes of the Magellan province, travel back a few millennia at the Milodon Cave and navigate past icebergs on Lago Grey to massive glaciers that reside beneath the spires of the Torres del Paine.

Greet Mother Nature at her finest on this exclusive 13-night adventure.

Revel in the pleasures of this exquisite journey of discovery...

-- Kimberly Fay, LuxuryLink.com, September 2003

When it comes to exclusive, privately escorted expeditions, Inka's Empire Tours has always offered its guests the very best in guided luxury travel. The superlatives don't end with the attractions themselves, which include such marvels as the earth's driest desert and the world's most remote island. These and other amazing destinations are included in the wide ranging Grandeur of Chile exploration. Arriving in and departing from Santiago, your encounter with the beauty of nature in extreme environments begins amid the moonlike landscapes of the Atacama Desert and finishes among the stone idols of legendary Easter Island.

In Atacama, experience such natural wonders as the eerily silent Valley of the Moon, four-million-year-old Atacama Salt Lake and breathtaking El Tatio Geysers. Cruise in the scenic Lake District, where the Osorno, Puntiagudo and Tronador volcanoes crown Lake Todos los Santos. A visit to the penguin colony at Otway Sound precedes a ramble through Torres del Paine National Park. After four days of exploring the enigmatic archaeological sites of Easter Island, return to the mainland for an exclusive stay in the founder's mansion of the historic Santa Rita Vineyard.

Explore the grand natural beauty of Chile on this 18-night ecological excursion.

The Dream at the End of the World...

-- Edward Albee, The New York Times, April 30, 2006

Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, is an open-air, archaeological museum of a fascinating but vanished culture, a stark lesson in what can happen when humans fail to live in harmony with nature. We still do not know for sure how or why the first inhabitants carved, transported and raised their monolithic stone statues, or why the "moai" gaze inland instead of out to sea. But, as you walk with your private guide, you can contemplate the enigma of almost 900 mysterious idols created over a period of five centuries by a civilization that later tried to destroy them. Inka's Empire Tours, long recognized for its handcrafted itineraries to uncommon destinations, invites you to The Idols of Easter Island. Beginning and ending in Santiago, Chile, a flight takes you to the Pacific Ocean island known to its natives as "the navel of the world".

Hike to the quarries at the Rano Raraku Volcano, where the stone statues were carved, to view about 300 of the moai in different states of completion. See standing moai at Ahu Tongariki, Te Pito Kura and Anakena Beach. Next, drive to the village of Orongo, once home of the birdman cult, immortalized in more than one-thousand artistically carved petroglyphs. Among the adventures is a walk to Ahu Vinapu, where the unique quality of the stonework may evidence a legendary Inca voyage from South America, twenty-four hundred miles away. Another adventure is a horse ride from the ceremonial place of Tahai through hills and meadows to the famous seven moai of Ahu Akivi. Before returning to Santiago, go to the highest point on the island for a panorama of an endless sea.

Ponder ancient idols and a lost civilization on this 4-night cultural expedition.
