see Opulent
Itineraries.
This rafting adventure on a beautiful
section of the Urubamba River is for just about everyone -- no
experience is needed. Usually, we run the class III IV
Chuquicahauna section, above Cuzco, where the river is more fun.
It takes one-and-a-half hours to drive to our entry point. On
arrival, we will inflate the rafts and, following a full safety
briefing and instructions, set off for two hours of white-water
rafting. The river starts gently, with time to practice the maneuvers
required, then builds up with more challenging rapids through
a beautiful canyon, where we will see torrent ducks and views
of the surrounding peaks. Upon reaching our take-out point, we'll
enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Cuzco in the mid to
late afternoon.
Pre-Departure Information
What to bring
- Towel
- Shorts
- Swimsuit
- T-shirt or thermal top
- Trainers or Tevas sandals that will
get wet
- Sun hat
- Suntan lotion
- String for glasses
- Cameras
Note: This rafting section runs from
April through November. After that, it becomes a much more serious
class V river, which we only offer to experienced rafters. At
all times, we reserve the right to offer an alternative section
if we consider the conditions too dangerous to safely run this
section. We can also run a section known as Cusipata, which is
generally safer and easier, and is ideal for family groups. The
youngest age we will take is twelve years old; there is no older
limit.
